Biketoberfest, Daytona Beach | I-95 Exit Guide

For 28 years, motorcycle enthusiasts have come to Daytona Beach in October for Biketoberfest® (Oct. 15-18, 2020) to enjoy the beautiful Florida fall weather and miles of scenic rides.

This year the weather is expected to be beautiful, the rides will be scenic, and due to COVID-19 some things will be different.

On September 9, city commissioners in Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach, two of the many cities within Volusia County where Biketoberfest® activities are held, discussed whether to issue special event permits to merchants for such activities as outdoor concerts and food and merchandise vendors. Permits in Ormond Beach were approved. In Daytona Beach commissioners felt that now was not the right time to approve special use permits.

“Safety is paramount,” said Lori Campbell Baker, executive director of the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB). “We know these were difficult decisions for the cities and the merchants. We know some riders will still come and we look forward to welcoming them back. For those planning farther ahead, we hope to see them next year at Daytona Bike Week’s 80thAnniversary March 5-14 and at 2021 Biketoberfest® October 14-17.”

While the number of vendors may be less at some locations, local businesses – on Main Street, at Destination Daytona, in Midtown, and around Daytona International Speedway – will be open.

“Our hotels, restaurants, attractions, and retail shops are open. Our beautiful, expansive beach is open. For those who decide to travel to our area, we want them to visit responsibly and safely,” said Campbell Baker.

More information can be found on the official event website Biketoberfest.org

Daytona Beach | I-95 Exit Guide

Daytona Beach, on Florida’s east coast, is known as “the world’s most famous beach” because of its 23 miles of stunning Atlantic shoreline. But this destination has much more than a beautiful beach. It is home to towns, neighborhoods and unique districts that combine to create a community that gives visitors reasons to come back again, any time of year. Its location just an hour’s drive away from Orlando, St. Augustine and the Kennedy Space Center, making it an easy drive destination, but its air service is excellent, too.

Daytona Beach

Daytona Beach has a vibrant, walkable downtown district (historic Beach Street area between Bay Street and Orange Avenue, Daytona Beach, Florida 32114) with retail and dining venues and views of the Halifax River. Jackie Robinson Ballpark (105 East Orange Avenue, Daytona Beach, Florida 32114; 386-257-3172), the place where Robinson broke the color barrier, is one of the oldest still used in professional baseball and is home to the Daytona Tortugas minor league team.

The Halifax Historical Museum (252 South Beach Street, Daytona Beach, Florida 32114; 386-255-6976) is a hidden gem that showcases the area’s history. Nearby are some of the best museums and galleries in the country. This is home to the Smithsonian-affiliated Museum of Arts & Sciences (352 South Nova Road, Daytona Beach, Florida 32114; 386-255-0285), where visitors can experience the beauty of art, the wonder of science, stories of history and Coca-Cola memorabilia. The Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art (352 South Nova Road, Daytona Beach, Florida 32114; 386-255-0285) has an amazing collection of Florida paintings.

Ormond Beach

Ormond Beach gained fame when the likes of Henry Flagler visited and John D. Rockefeller made it his second home. It is now known as the “Birthplace of Speed” because starting in 1903, the smooth, hard-packed beach sand attracted automobile inventors and drivers. Today the Ormond Garage (48 West Granada Boulevard, Ormond Beach, Florida 32174; 386-492-7981), a popular craft brewery and eatery, pays homage to that racing heritage and sits in the heart of a vibrant entertainment district. The Live Oak canopy of the Ormond Scenic Loop is a beautiful introduction leading to the northern most part of the area known as Ormond-by-the-Sea, with its traffic-free beach and a variety of great restaurants and parks. The Casements (25 Riverside Drive, Ormond Beach, Florida 32176; 386-676-3216) is the former Rockefeller home, on the National Register of Historic Places and features beautiful riverfront gardens which are the setting for many local events and weddings.

Ponce Inlet

Racing is also at the forefront in Ponce Inlet. Known for both its collection of memorabilia as well as being named a Top 10 Best Florida Beach Bar, Racing’s North Turn Beach Bar & Grill (4511 South Atlantic Avenue, Ponce Inlet, Florida 32127; 386-322-3258) sits at the spot where beach races were held each year until 1958 when NASCAR relocated to its brand-new speedway, now Daytona International Speedway (1801 West International Speedway Boulevard, Daytona Beach, Florida 32114; 800-748-7467).

Much more of the culture and natural beauty of Old Florida are alive and well along the coast and in the waters of Ponce Inlet. The Ponce Inlet Lighthouse (4931 South Peninsula Drive, Ponce Inlet, Florida 32127; 386-761-1821) is a National Historic Landmark and Florida’s tallest lighthouse. The grounds tell many stories of Florida’s history and a trip to the top of the lighthouse offers a spectacular view! For an on-the-water excursion, Ponce Inlet Watersports (4936 South Peninsula Drive, Ponce Inlet, Florida 32127; 386-405-3445) offers eco-tours that cruise the back bays and Intracoastal Waterway, as well as paddle board and kayak rentals.

Throughout the Daytona Beach area and Volusia County, the character of the variety of cities, town and communities can add variety and entertainment to any visitor’s itinerary. From the Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve (90 Divito Drive, New Smyrna Beach, Florida 32168;

386-943-7081) of New Smyrna and Port Orange, to the Lyonia Preserve (2150 Eustace Avenue, Deltona, Florida 32725; 386-789-7207, ext. #21025) of Deltona, from the award-winning main street of Downtown DeLand, with its mix of retailers, restaurants and artisans, to the variety of farmers markets in most every corner of the county, there is a unique spot and an authentic experience in Daytona Beach for everyone to enjoy.

Daytona Beach Holiday Lights | I-95 Exit Guide

When planning a holiday getaway, many happily trade sparkling snow for sparkling sand beaches and warm sea breezes. Visitors have always been fascinated at the ways Floridians combine the best of the beach with the best of the holidays, including decorations from beach-quirky to elegantly ornate. Often called home of the world’s most famous beaches, Daytona Beach, Florida, is a holiday standout that sets the stage for a season of dazzling light displays, along with 23 miles of Atlantic Ocean shoreline and inland fun. It’s located on Florida’s east coast, midway between St. Augustine and the Kennedy Space Center (only an hour’s drive from each) and just an hour east of Orlando.

Slow drive in the fast lane

Since 1929, when Major Henry Segrave set his final land speed record on the white sand beaches of Daytona Beach, the “World’s Most Famous Beach” has become one of the world’s most popular racing destinations. From November 18, 2022-January 1, 2023, Daytona International Speedway is transformed into Magic of Lights®—a slow ride through a dazzling display of over a million holiday lights. (1801 West International Speedway Boulevard, Daytona Beach, Florida 32114; 800-748-7467). Drive through a 1.5-mile lights extravaganza that uses the latest LED technology and digital animation to create magical scenes like the Illuminating Mega Tree, 40 feet tall with dancing lights synchronized to favorite holiday tunes. Other beloved scenes returning are Tropical Christmas, Fairytale Scenes, Reindeer Crossing, 12 Days of Christmas and the Enchanting Tunnel of Lights. This year will feature the premiere of the BarbieTM holiday light display as well as Big Foot Monster Trucks and Prehistoric Christmas.

Walk across the pedestrian bridge or drive across the boulevard into a million square feet of world-class shops, restaurants, entertainment and hotel accommodations at ONE DAYTONA. Each weekend brings family-friendly events from live music and performances to special meals and shopping. Stay on-site at Fairfield Inn & Suites Daytona Beach Speedway/Airport or the Daytona Autograph Collection Hotel for an immersive race-fan and festive holiday experience.

Cuisine and holiday cheer

Built in the late 1800s, the exquisite Rose Villa was established as an ornate bed and breakfast in 1901 to accommodate guests who wanted more privacy than Henry Flagler’s popular Ormond Hotel. In 2007 it was restored and transformed into Rose Villa Southern Table & Bar to the delight of locals and visitors alike. From November 18, 2022, through January 5, 2023, a lavish display will light up historic downtown Ormond Beach as a beacon of the season in the center of the Granada Boulevard district. At Rose Villa Gingerbread Fantasy visitors can take memorable photos outside the one-of-a-kind Victorian jewel and explore the rich history within for a delicious dining experience, gingerbread snacks and signature cocktails. Make dinner reservations well in advance to experience the restaurant’s eclectic mouth-watering works of art and special holiday events. None needed to view the colorful lights reaching from the ground to the rooftop, larger-than-life Gingerbread men, towering lollipops, unique topiary snowmen, the “dogs of Rose Villa,” stained glass windows reflecting gingerbread men, gold bells, candy canes and candied fruit. (43 West Granada Boulevard, Ormond Beach, Florida 32176; 386-615-7673)

That’s just two of the holiday events planned for a season of magical memories and mild weather in Daytona Beach. Martina McBride will be bringing her “Joy of Christmas” tour to Peabody Auditorium on November 27. December 3rd is the Daytona Beach Christmas Boat Parade, where spectators line the Halifax River and take in the serene and magical displays on boats big and small, decked out from stem to stern. On land, the Bells and Shells Christmas Parade in downtown Daytona Beach is December 10. It’s virtually impossible to run out of great things to do in this area, any time of year. Daytona Beach | I-95 Exit Guide

While the beautiful sands and refreshing ocean waters of Daytona Beach, Florida, may arguably be the most well-known in the world, there are a surprising number of additional entertainment options throughout this destination. Visitors are finding a new energy that’s part of the vibe here, from the beachfront to the arts scene to the speedway, and they are loving every bit of it.

Daytona Beach is located on Florida’s east coast, midway between St. Augustine and the Kennedy Space Center (only an hour’s drive from each) and just an hour east of Orlando. Its iconic beaches and racing history have long been attracting visitors. Today, there is even more to enjoy in the many Entertainment Districts and neighborhoods throughout the destination. Each has a personality of its own and a host of ways to enjoy this diverse destination.

The Riverfront Esplanade (Magnolia Avenue & Beach Street, Daytona Beach, Florida 32114) is a centerpiece of the popular Historic Beach Street District. It spans a mile of the Intracoastal Waterway and offers the perfect setting for waterfront shopping and dining. Sites like the statue honoring civil rights and women’s rights champion Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune or the Florida Wild sculpture by artist Paul Baliker highlight the walkway, as do a variety of murals. This is also the home to the Jackie Robinson Ballpark and Statue (105 East Orange Avenue, Daytona Beach, Florida 32114; 386-257-3172). Now home to the minor league Daytona Tortugas, it was here that Jackie Robinson played in the first integrated Major League Baseball spring training game in 1946. The new Galerie Elan (230 South Beach Street, Daytona Beach, Florida 32114; 386-871-9906) is adding even more to this dynamic district. It is a cooperative representing 75 artists who have a wide array of styles, media and perspectives and joins other galleries and shops. Eateries like McK’s Tavern & Brewery (218 South Beach Street, Daytona Beach, Florida 32114; 386-238-3321) and Madeline’s Wine Bar (200 North Beach Street, Daytona Beach, Florida 32114; 386-492-7914) are great places to relax and enjoy the neighborhood vibe.

The Ormond Beach Main Street District is known for its casual and fine dining options as well as a live music scene. This is a popular dining district with neighborhood favorites like Rose Villa Southern Table & Bar (43 West Granada Boulevard, Ormond Beach, Florida 32176; 386-615-7673), Rosie’s Café (136 West Granada Boulevard, Ormond Beach, Florida 32174; 386-673-0044) and Ormond Garage (48 West Granada Boulevard, Ormond Beach, Florida 32174; 386-492-7981) being joined by newly opened Millie’s North (330 S Atlantic Avenue, Ormond Beach Florida 32176; 386-238-9756. The art scene is at the forefront here, too. The 10,000-square-foot Ormond Memorial Art Museum & Gardens (78 East Granada Boulevard, Ormond Beach, Florida 32176; 386-676-3347), features changing exhibits of works of prominent Florida and international artists, lush tropical gardens and peaceful nature trails. The eclectic mix of fine art at Ocean Art Gallery (197 East Granada Boulevard @ Granada Plaza, Ormond Beach, Florida 32176; 386-317-9400) and Thays Art Gallery and Studio (67 West Granada Boulevard, Ormond Beach, Florida 32174; 386-871-4991) are sure to please contemporary art lovers, too.

New lodging options are adding variety while favorites like the Hard Rock Hotel Daytona Beach (918 North Atlantic Avenue, Daytona Beach, Florida 32118; 386-947-7300) keep the four-star service coming with its 200 guest rooms, Hard Rock Spa and oceanfront dining options. It was joined last year by the Max Beach Resort (1901 South Atlantic Avenue, Daytona Beach, Florida 32118; 386-999-2555) in Daytona Beach Shores, which offers spacious vacation rentals. Next up will be the Renaissance by Marriott Daytona Beach Oceanfront (640 North Atlantic Avenue, Daytona Beach, Florida 32118; 386-239-9800), slated to open in early 2024 with a stunning design, impressive amenities and oceanfront views. The full list of lodging options includes an amazing variety of choices.

Of course, the most well-known attractions are still crowd pleasers, and no trip would be complete without enjoying time along Daytona Beach’s iconic boardwalk (12 South Ocean Avenue, Daytona Beach, Florida, 32118; 386-253-0254) and pier (200 Main Street, Daytona Beach, Florida 32114). Daytona Beach, Florida | I-95 Exit Guide

From endless activities to calm, quiet days spent sunbathing and beachcombing, visitors are finding just what they’re looking for in a Florida vacation along the 23 miles of world-famous iconic shores of Daytona Beach. With area investments in progress and more hotel, attraction, dining and shopping options than ever, now is the perfect time to (re)experience all that Daytona Beach has to offer, including these new developments:

New Attractions and Renovations

  • The Daytona Aquarium & Rainforest Adventure will be opening in Daytona Beach in early 2024 and will be the destination’s first aquarium offering an interactive educational experience featuring animals from both land and sea. The 55,000-square foot facility will be located on the northwest corner of International Speedway Blvd. and Nova Road in the heart of Daytona Beach. Plans for the aquarium include close to 40 separate tanks including a 110,000-gallon shark tank and a 12,000-gallon stingray touch pool. There will also be habitats for alligators and crocodiles, frogs, and lizards. The indoor rainforest will be coming in phase 2 and is planned to open within 8 to 12 months after opening. The rainforest will have animals like, sloths, armadillos, tamarins, Toucans, and other various types of birds.
  • Spanning a mile of Intracoastal Waterway, the Riverfront Esplanade is a premier gathering space and botanical garden in downtown Daytona Beach. Composed of more than a mile of waterfront running trail with comfortable benches and swings overlooking the Halifax River, the Riverfront Esplanade also features a dog park with an agility course and a state-of-the-art splash pad. The northern end of the Riverfront Esplanade opened in 2022 while the southern end of the green space opened in October 2023. Visitors will discover in the southern end walkways that run through a creek with waterfalls, gardens with flowers, plants and trees and picnic tables that overlook the water.
  • The Marine Science Center, located in Ponce Inlet, opened a new Raptor Education and Conservation Exhibit, which is dedicated to the permanent raptor residents of the center, who, due to injuries, cannot be returned to the wild. The carefully crafted habitat provides a safe and enriching environment for these majestic birds. Additionally, the center will soon complete a renovation of their exhibit that pays tribute to the history of the Volusia County’s Artificial Coral Reef program and educates visitors about its importance.
